The website of the magazine “Newsweek " referred to the statements of US Secretary of state and former national security adviser Henry Kissinger, in which he said that China's entry on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict line could lead to peace talks.

Newsweek: Kissinger expects a Chinese role in the peace between Russia and Ukraine and does not mind meeting Putin

The former security adviser expressed his belief that the Russian - Ukrainian war has entered a turning point, and he expected talks at the end of the year, due to recent Chinese efforts.

Merzhiko: China is not keen on Ukraine's victory in the war and the return of its occupied territories, and Ukraine's victory means a victory for Democracy, a defeat for a strategic partner Without Borders. China will do its best to prevent this from happening.

After several rounds of talks after the start of the war in February 2022, neither side showed a willingness to compromise or return to the negotiating table, but Beijing tried to revive the talks between Kiev and Moscow with a 12-point paper published on the first anniversary of the war. In addition to calling for a ceasefire, the Chinese plan contained a proposal for Russian troops to remain in the occupied Ukrainian regions, and an end to further sanctions that have not been approved by the UN Security Council, in which Russia has the right to veto.

In an interview conducted by Ted Koppel for CBS and broadcast on Sunday, Kissinger expressed confidence in China's ability to change the course of the war: “now that China has entered negotiations, it will move forward and I think it will be at the end of the year,” and “we will talk about a negotiation process, and even real negotiations.

Kissinger also told Koppel that Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin would talk to him if he called them. When asked by Koppel if he would meet with Putin in Moscow if asked by the president, the retired diplomat replied: “I tend to do it, and I will be an adviser, not an active person”.

Despite the 12-point plan, President Xi has faced criticism from the international community for not talking more with Putin because of the war. He and his officials, throughout the war, adhered to China's neutrality and their keenness for peace. While Chinese and Russian officials continued their talks on politics and Xi's visit to Moscow in March, Putin wrote an article before Xi's visit in the people's daily, in which he stressed that relations between the two countries are “without borders or taboos”. “China is not keen on Ukraine's victory in the war and the return of its occupied territories, and Ukraine's victory means a victory for Democracy, a defeat for a strategic partner Without Borders,” Newsweek quoted MP Oleksandr merzhiko as saying. China will do its best to prevent this from happening,” but President Xi recently called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for an hour last month. “Amid the rise of rational and thoughtful voices from all sides, we should seize the opportunity and build favorable conditions for a political settlement of the crisis,”Xi told Zelensky. On Twitter, Zelensky said he and Xi “had fruitful talks”. “This call, as well as the appointment of a Ukrainian ambassador to China will provide a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations,”he added.

Xi to Zelensky: amid the rise of rational and thoughtful voices from all sides, we should seize the opportunity and build favorable conditions for a political settlement of the crisis.

Although Putin and the Kremlin have expressed a desire to open talks with Ukraine, the conditions for such talks suggest that a ceasefire is far off. However, Ukraine has shown that it does not want to negotiate with Putin because of the decision of the International Criminal Court to arrest Putin, because of the deportation of Ukrainian children.
