JK Rowling, the author of the "Harry Potter" series receives a death threat after her solidarity with Salman Rushdie - (Tweets)

British author JK Rowling announced today, Saturday, that she received a threat after she showed her support for Salman Rushdie after he was attacked on stage in New York, yesterday, Friday.



The author of the popular "Harry Potter" series was told that she was "next" by a Pakistan-based extremist who launched an attack on Salman Rushdie and pledged allegiance to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.



Rowling took to Twitter to seek support in dealing with the threat and requested that the Pakistani user's account be removed from the social networking site.


"Twitter support team, is there an opportunity for some support?" Rowling asked on Saturday afternoon.


"To everyone who sent messages of support: Thank you. The police intervened.



Today, Saturday, the charges of attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault were brought against Salman Rushdie's attacker, Hadi Matar , 24.


The attack occurred as Rushdie was being introduced to a lecture on creative freedom in front of hundreds of attendees at the Chautauqua Institute in New York on Friday, when a man rushed to the podium and stabbed a writer who had been rewarded since 1989 for his readiness.
