In Ukraine, the despair and anger of the inhabitants of Chernihiv

Footage filmed by local Ukrainian media Newch.tv shows homes engulfed in flames on the night of Friday March 4 following a Russian bombardment in a village on the outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.

In addition to Kiev, several Ukrainian cities are under attack from Russian bombs dropped by planes. This is the case of Kharkiv, the country's second city, but also of Chernihiv, in the north of the country. Strikes from Moscow killed dozens of people there.

These bombings have thrown thousands of Ukrainians onto the roads who are trying to leave by any means possible.

Humanitarian Corridors

The Russian army announced on Monday the opening of several humanitarian corridors and the establishment of local ceasefires to evacuate civilians from the cities of Kharkhiv, Kiev, Mariupol and Sumy. Half of these corridors are connected to Russia or Belarus.

This decision was taken after a "personal request" from Emmanuel Macron addressed to Vladimir Putin according to the Russian army. But the French presidency underlines for its part that Emmanuel Macron “obviously” did not ask that such corridors go towards Russia or Belarus.

As for the Ukrainian government, it considered that these corridors towards Belarus and Russia were “not an acceptable option”.
