NETFLIX TESTS ITS VIDEO GAME OFFER ON ANDROID IN POLAND

It is now more than real: Netflix has integrated video games into its subscription through its Android mobile application.

Only available for testing in Poland, this first trial offers subscribers to try two titles based on the Stranger Things series , directly available for download - and not in cloud gaming.

First test in Poland

“ Starting today, subscribers in Poland will be able to try Netflix mobile games on Android with two titles, Stranger Thins: 1984 and Stranger Things 3. ” announces the Netflix Geeked Twitter account of the SVoD service. “ This is really just the very beginning and we still have a lot of work to do in the coming months, but it's a first step .”

Make no mistake: although it is Netflix, these games will not be streamed on mobile devices, but will be installed - in a model similar to what Apple Arcade offers, for example. example. Netflix Geeked also specifies that the service's games will not include advertisements or microtransactions, and will be included in the Netflix subscription, and this, we imagine, regardless of the subscribed offer.

Stranger Things in the spotlight

As shown by the screenshots uploaded by the Polish Netflix account, these games are directly integrated into the catalog displayed by the Netflix application, just below the current “popular” selection. An integration that was described by the Bloomberg website in an article on the future entry into the video game business by Netflix, last July.

The American SVoD service had thus attracted the attention of the whole world after recruiting Mike Verdu , a veteran of the video game industry in its new division dedicated to the development of video games. Netflix's ambition is to enter this highly competitive mobile video game sector from next year. We can therefore expect to see the video game offer expand to other countries around the world in the coming months.

The firm has obviously capitalized on its popular productions for this first excursion into the video game with two titles taken from the Stranger Things series . If Stranger Things 3 is not new - the game was already released on consoles, mobiles and PC in 2019 - the second title Stranger Things: 1984 is however a novelty exclusive to the Netflix subscription, and would have been developed in-house at believe the mentions on the official Google Play page .

Let's talk Netflix and gaming.

Today members in Poland can try Netflix mobile gaming on Android with two games, Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3. It's very, very early days and we've got a lot of work to do in the months ahead, but this is the first step. https://t.co/yOl44PGY0r - Netflix Geeked (@NetflixGeeked) August 26, 2021
