Rafa Benitez bemoans Everton injuries after Wolves defeat but insists things are ‘looking positive’

Rafa Benitez couldn’t hide his disappointment after watching his Everton side lose a third Premier League game in a row on Monday evening.

The Toffees started the clash with Wolves really poorly and found themselves 2-0 down after 32 minutes.

Alex Iwobi pulled one back in the second half but the home side held on for a deserved victory.

Speaking after the game, Benitez said: ‘It is a pity because we didn’t play in the first half. We had a lot of character and chances in the second half, it was maybe a little too late. That was the reaction we were expecting but it was just a shame we didn’t do it in the first half.

‘They were growing in confidence. We have to see what we did in the second half for 90 minutes. Obviously we didn’t do it and that is where we have to improve.

‘We saw the character in the second half to react after a bad first half.

‘I think we are close but missing the players that can make a difference.’

‘I think we have all the players available we will be much better and will be doing similar things like we did in the second half.

‘Tottenham are a very good team and with a new manager I am sure they will show commitment to show they are good players. It is the Premier League. I am quite confident we will do better.’
