R&B singer Jesse Powell, who rose to fame with his song ' You ', has died at the age of 51.
Jesse Powell, the R&B singer who scored a Top 10 hit in 1999 with " You ", has died aged 51.
Powell " passed away peacefully " from his home in Los Angeles, the singer's family said in a statement posted on social media. No cause of death has been released.
" It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell ," the Powell family said in the statement. The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn this tremendous loss and celebrate their eternal legacy . Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you mean a lot to him ."
Born in Gary, Indiana, and older brother to R&B duo Trina & Tamara, Powell released his self-titled debut album in 1996. This album contained what would become his biggest hit, " You ." Although the single was released in 1996 with minor success, it then reached the Top 10 in 1999, when the track was re-released on his second album 'Bout It' .
After a string of R&B singles and two more albums ( JP in 2001 and Jesse in 2003) Powell retired from the music industry.
